Sell audio on your WordPress website using WooCommerce and Awesound.
Â
November 2023 update
The below instructions have been replaced with simple, interactive instructions here: https://awesound.com/woocommerce
Â
Motivation
This integration means you can create and promote your products via your own WordPress site. After payment is received, Awesound will immediately fulfill the order behind the scenes.
Once audio is uploaded to Awesound, the remaining setup can usually be concluded within 10-15 minutes.
Â
The end result of this integration allows you to sell via WooCommerce, like on this site:
BOOK
1 Day Immersion PLAB 2 Communication Skills Course
https://aroramedicaleducation.co.uk/audiobook/
- Payment is made via WooCommerce
- Awesound fulflls secure audio access behind the scenes.
Instructions
Sign up: awesound.com/join
- At this point, you can already contact support@awesound.com to register your interest in setting up with WooCommerce, and to find out your WEBHOOK_ID.
Define the product: awesound.com/create
- If you like, there's no need to upload the "real" audio at this stage. Just set the price, title, cover photo, and upload at least one audio track, so you have some product ready to test.
- The price you set on Awesound does not have to exactly match the price on your website, but Awesound should never be cheaper. For example, if you plan to experiment with pricing your product in the range of $15-30, then set the price once on Awesound to be $30. On your website, you can later adjust the real price to be $15, $20, $30, or offer any discounts you like on your website, knowing nobody can buy it cheaper just by knowing the Awesound link.
Â
Follow the instructions on https://awesound.com/woocommerce
Â
Before running any test purchases, all the above steps must be complete, including the webhooks and REST API key.
Please wait for Awesound staff to confirm your REST API key has been saved and deployed to your account before running any test purchase(s).
Â
Once done, you can run test purchases as normal on your WooCommerce site. You may wish to (temporarily) set the price low on your website, or use a discount coupon. Though of course, since the sales are happening on your website, you can also refund these test purchases at any time.

Examples
Example Awesound customers making sales on their WordPress website:
- Note that the customer does not need to know that Awesound exists; Awesound’s role is white-labeled here. (This education company has sold almost a million dollar’s worth of audio since partnering with Awesound in 2018.)
- Note that the customer has a choice of multiple formats. [This is achieved using product “variants”.] Only the audiobook format is delivered by Awesound. There is no need for the customer to leave the merchant’s website, whether they’re buying the audio or some other format.
- Another example of a merchant selling multiple products — not just audio. Awesound lets her have “Add to cart” as an option for customers, without bouncing them over to an external site like Audible.
This one is in Danish. It suits the publisher to maintain control of the customer flow until the sale has been made. A sale on the author’s website is equivalent to a sale on https://awesound.com/a/nar-hulemnd-investerer — either way, the listener gets access to the same product on Awesound.
